Position Description:

The Director of Community Engagement & Learning helps deepen Dublin's connection to the arts by creating meaningful opportunities for people to experience, learn about, participate in, and contribute to Dublin Arts Council's work. Working as part of Dublin Arts Council's small leadership team, this role leads educational and community programming, develops meaningful relationships across the community, creates opportunities for people to connect with Dublin's public art, and builds pathways for community members to become active participants, volunteers, ambassadors, and stewards of Dublin Arts Council's work.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Community Learning & Educational Programming: 30%

• Develop engaging arts learning opportunities for diverse audiences and ages, including schools, educators, families, adults, older adults, and caregivers.

• Cultivate relationships with Dublin City Schools, educators, libraries, and other learning partners.

• Develop artist-led workshops, residencies, tours, conversations, and other participatory learning experiences.

• Help make arts and public-art experiences accessible, relevant, and meaningful to a wide range of audiences.

 

Public Art Learning & Community Connection: 30%

• Create opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with public art through learning, participation, and shared experiences.

• Collaborate with the Public Art Director and other staff to develop engagement opportunities around new and existing works.

• Connect artists and public-art projects with schools, educators, community groups, families, and other audiences.

• Help cultivate broader community familiarity, participation, and investment in Dublin's public art collection.

• Contribute to Dublin Arts Council's artist residency program and other public-art initiatives through programming, partnerships, and audience engagement.

 

Community Partnerships & Audience Development: 20%

• Build and support relationships across arts, education, civic, and community sectors.

• Develop and strengthen partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for participation and connection.

• Help reach new and diverse audiences and deepen relationships with existing ones.

• Represent Dublin Arts Council in the community and help grow it's role as a resource, partner, and convener.

 

Volunteer & Community Participation: 15%

• Build an organization-wide volunteer program, creating meaningful ways for community members to contribute to Dublin Arts Council's work.

• Develop opportunities for residents to participate as volunteers, ambassadors, docents, program assistants, and community stewards.

• Recruit, orient, coordinate, and steward volunteers in ways that create lasting relationships with Dublin Arts Council.

• Work with staff to identify meaningful volunteer roles across programs, public art, events, and community initiatives.

• Develop pathways for community members to move from participation to deeper involvement and stewardship of Dublin Arts Council's work.

 

Organizational Collaboration & Support: 5%

• Work closely with the team to advance shared goals and priorities.

• Communicate proactively, share information, and contribute ideas across the organization.

• Support planning, evaluation, communications, strategic initiatives, and grant-related work as appropriate.

• Participate in occasional evening and weekend programs and events.

• Is comfortable building relationships and representing Dublin Arts Council in the community.

• Brings curiosity, creativity, flexibility, and an ability to see the larger organizational picture.

• Understands that meaningful community engagement is built through relationships, participation, and shared experiences.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in arts administration, arts education, community engagement, public programming, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering arts education, community engagement, or public programming.

• Strong communication, organization, project management, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently while contributing actively to a collaborative team.

• Willingness to participate in occasional evening and weekend programs and events.

• Experience with public art, contemporary art, volunteer engagement, or community-based arts is preferred.
