emerging is Dublin Arts Council’s (DAC) popular annual exhibition of artwork created by students who live within Dublin City Schools’ (DCS) attendance area and students who have participated in DAC summer ARTcamps.

Artist Mark Soppeland, a distinguished professor of art emeritus at the Myers School of Art, The University of Akron, performs the roles of conceptualist, designer, craftsman, historian, philosopher, storyteller, pantheist, scientist and magician in The Sphere of Magic and other Visionary Objects/Extraordinary Images, his solo exhibition of mixed media paintings, collages and sculpture at Dublin Arts Council. The artwork relates to Soppeland’s interest in interpreting the symbolic and cultural baggage of found objects and images to evoke memory.

While millions of people are fleeing war, terror and persecution, 34 artists and a film crew have embarked on a mission to inspire understanding and compassion. The Columbus Crossing Borders Project, directed by Laurie VanBalen and documentary filmmaker Doug Swift, is presented as a traveling visual art exhibition and documentary film.

Photographer Hillary Perhot’s practice transforms based on sense, nonsense and serious play. In a time of massive image circulation, high-resolution 4k pictures and full-frame digital sensor cameras of ever-increasing mega-pixels, Perhot focuses her attention toward tactile, analog methods of photography.

Opening Doors: Calling Central Ohio Home is a group exhibition by New Americans who delve into concepts of identity through their artwork.

In the exhibition, Ya Got Somethin’ To Say, central Ohio artist Sharon Dorsey combines words with paintings and sculptures, inviting the viewer to be uplifted and forewarned by artwork featuring curious anecdotes and cautionary tales.

Formations: Three Artists and the Art of Mixed Media is a group exhibition by Columbus College of Art & Design Professors Emeriti Anita Dawson, Char Norman and Bruce Robinson; embracing contemporary expression of the joy of creativity and improvisation of materials.

Cuba in Columbus represents a multi-event, multi-venue group of exhibitions showcasing the work of 107 artists from central Ohio and Cuba at 33 art institutions, galleries, and public venues throughout Columbus through Nov. 15, 2019. Dublin Arts Council is hosting an exhibition of 13 of the artworks with a special reception on Oct. 22, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Masayuki Miyajima will return to the Dublin Arts Council gallery to close the 2019 Visual Arts Series with a solo exhibition of functional Japanese ceramic artwork in a continued exploration of material, form, substance and function to produce pottery imbued with a combination of body, mind and spirit.

Dublin Arts Council will open the 2020 Visual Arts Series with the 18th annual emerging exhibition of artwork by K-12 and postsecondary students in the Dublin City Schools attendance area. The exhibition will be on display in Dublin Arts Council’s (DAC) gallery, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin from Jan. 7 through Feb. 21, 2020.

Earth and Sky will include artworks in monotype, charcoal, oil and pastel inspired by Columbus artist Rod Bouc’s memories of early life on a Nebraska farm. The body of new works will include cloudscapes, still life and landscapes.

Inspired by the artist’s background as a product designer with Herman Miller furniture, Rubbermaid and Fitch, Inc., Don Staufenberg’s solo exhibition Ceramic Infusion melds experiences and influences to produce an integration of wood, metal, fiber and polymer with ceramics to create a unique tactile visual.
