Ceramics workshop with artist Masayuki Miyajima

Loading Events

Register to learn from Japanese ceramicist Masayuki Miyajima (“Masa”) during hour-long workshops held in Dublin Arts Council’s ceramics studio. Miyajima will lead participants through the methods and techniques he uses to create his own ceramic artworks, including:

• Shinogi/Free Form Surface Carving
• Inlay
• Pour Pattern
• Yubigaki – Thin Slip Hand Patterning

Workshops are limited to eight participants each, ages 16+. Masa will work with participants to create something new during each workshop. If you sign up for more than one-hour slot, you will create multiple products. Dress for mess; you may get glaze or clay on your clothes.

All skillsets are welcome. You do not need prior experience throwing on the wheel, handling the kiln, or kneading clay to learn from Masa. Please dress for mess.

Participants will need to return to Dublin Arts Council to pick up your creations at a later date. They will need to be fired in the kiln and will not be ready the day of the workshop. Artwork pickup is November 21 to December 16, Tuesday through Friday, 10:00am to 5:00pm, and on Saturday, December 10 from 11am to 2pm. If you are not available during these hours, please contact dempsey@dublinarts.org to coordinate.
