Gravity’s Ripple III
Gravity’s Ripple III is an original, site-specific, outdoor contemporary dance project, presented by Dublin Arts Council and OhioDance in collaboration with The Ohio State University Department of Dance and Ohio Department of Education Division of the Arts. A week-long residency which includes master classes for elementary and high school students, will culminate with free public performances at 6:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17 on the sloping riverfront grounds of Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin. The public will also be invited to attend a dress rehearsal Friday Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. Keely Shaffer-Glenn, who has a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education from Brigham Young University and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance-Choreography from University of Iowa, will choreograph Gravity’s Ripple III. Glenn’s creation will explore her fascination with and the hope of flying. “Once again, I am standing on a grassy hill looking out at the river asking myself ‘What if?’ with a cast of extraordinary movers, balloons, paper airplanes, floating lanterns, and determination to create some magic,” she says. Gravity’s Ripple III will be inspired by the early aviators of the 20th century and the imagery of David Wiesner’s beloved children’s picture books. Glenn hopes to express color, laughter and hope to those who dream to fly. The approximate 40-minute performances will be followed by a question-and-answer session between the choreographer, dancers and audience. Gravity’s Ripple was developed as part of part of Dublin Arts Council ongoing program, “Ripple Effect: Artistic Impact of the Scioto River” and was presented for the first time in 2009. |
